❪ FLONA COVE. ❫
OUTLINE: FLONA COVE
To the west of Olympia, past the outskirts of lush farms and ranches and south of the West Outlook, lies Flona Cove. Lush, relatively safe, and full of clean, clear water, this area is a popular vacation destination for those near and far. Those who come to Flona cove crave the beautiful beaches, delicious seafood, and hidden treasures it has to offer. All of these come with the convenience of being just a short distance from Olympia. You definitely don't want to walk here if you have the option not to, however. Don't have a mount? Fear not.
FLONA HARBOR & TRAIN STATION ![]()
THE TRAIN: Luckily, Olympians love Flona Cove so much, that there is an hourly train that travels between the Olympian Market District and the Flona Cove area. The fare costs 20 silver for economy class and 60 silver for first class. Economy class offers a seat and snacks for purchase. First class features a lounge area and unlimited food and alcohol. Those that work for the Royal Guard, The Sanctuary, Simwe Institute, or Shades Darker receive free first class voyages, courtesy of their employers.
FLONA HARBOR: The train will drop you off at Flona Harbor, which is a bustling little town of its own right. Forgot to purchase a swimsuit in Olympia? Not to worry! Here, vacationers can find shops of all kinds to suit their needs. In terms of swimwear trends, anything and everything goes. Olympia encourages individual expression, after all. There are also a variety of marine-oriented businesses that offer sales or rentals: boats, surfboards, fishing gear, scuba or snorkeling gear: it's all here. Make sure you don't miss out on the fantastic seafood options here, either. Whether it's buying freshly caught food from a fisherman pulling into harder or enjoying a gourmet lobster meal at one of various upscale restaurants here, there's something to delight any lover of seafood. THE BEACH ![]()
Just a short walking distance away from the harbor in either direction, you will find miles of beautiful sandy beaches. The water is clear, warm, and inviting. These beaches are the most popular targets for tourists, although the coastline is long enough that they are never too crowded. Sticking to the more populated areas means that finding beach volleyball nets is relatively easy. Wander further away from the harbor area, and you'll be able to find your own peace of relatively unpopulated paradise. Wherever you end up, watch out for jellyfish!
Certain areas, especially those closest to the harbor, function as mini-resorts. For a small fee of 50 silver, you can lounge in your very own chair and umbrella and be provided with strong cocktails and delicious appetizers. These are served by beautiful, scantily-clad men and women, of course. The best area for surfing can be found by walking about 15 minutes north of the harbor. Here, both dedicated and beginner surfers can enjoy the waves. VARIOUS LAGOONS ![]()
Taking a walk further north along the coast, near the West Outpost, rewards its adventurers with various hidden gems. This area is home to small lagoons and hidden waterways. Extremely beautiful and peaceful, some of these areas also offer more... lucrative opportunities. By diving into the deepest parts of these waters, adventurers can sometimes find precious gems embedded at the bottom. It is not unheard of to find rubies, sapphires, onyx, and moonstone in these areas. Be careful, however — the prospect of finding these jewels has made some adventurers very greedy, and some will not take kindly to what they perceive as someone moving in on their harvesting territory. Confrontations between divers have often led to bloody violence.
If you are looking for a more relaxing time, there may still be a need to be cautious. One lagoon in particular, Cupid's Pool, has magical properties that tends to make its bathers feel a bit more... touchy-feely with one another. This little spot is not heavily advertised (the locals don't want too many tourists finding it) and is relatively far from the nearest business, so... at least there's privacy? UNDERWATER ADVENTURES ![]()
Those brave enough to wander beyond the coast and dive into the depths of the waters will find a world teeming with marine life. These areas are a favorite for scuba diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. Not too far from the coast, rich corals and colorful fish line the ocean floor. If you're lucky, you may even find a school of dolphins to play with.
Those really brave souls that wish to wander farther from the coast and deeper into the water may find treasures of a different kind. There have been known cases of shipwrecks along the ocean floor, with valuable items intact and ripe for the taking. To the south west of the coast, shortly after exiting the canal that connects The Outlook with Flona Cove, are what look like underwater ruins of a small city... FISHING AND SAILING AREAS ![]()
Is eating fresh seafood at a restaurant or buying it from the market just not good enough? Try your hand at fishing! You can fish anywhere in Flona Cove, but the best catches and the most variety to be found are in the waters between Flona Cove and The Outlook. It may be wise to rent a boat, as the shore along these areas is rocky and lined with treacherous cliffs. This is also a popular area for recreational sailing. These waters tend to be relatively peaceful during fair weather, but when storms hit, they become extremely dangerous.
THE SOUTH COAST ![]()
Those looking to explore the Southernmost Coast, near Edrathe Ruins, will find rocky, merciless terrain. You may not run into another soul for miles. These waters also possess much less marine life than those surrounding it. It is as if a dark, dreary cloud looms over this coast. Once a year around the Fall Solstice, the locals will make the long journey to this coast and release lanterns into the water. They do this to demonstrate to Thesa that they appreciate even their most barren of coastlines, and to ask for the goddess to continue giving them a prosperous ocean living.
