❪ WYVER FAUNA ❫

KNOWN FAUNA
BLENDWEB
IMAGE Link
RARITY Undergrowth
LOCATION In the deep woods of the Outlook. They tend to build nest in the tallest trees.
TEMPERAMENT Hostile.
REPORT Submitted by Bigby Wolf

These arachnids are actually deceased. Once creatures known as Widows, they have actually formed a symbiotic relationship with parasitic mushrooms grown from their back. The husk is kept sentient through the use of the parasite. Their lifespan is not long, ranging at approximately 6 years for the larger mushrooms before they decay and die. The larger the Widow, the larger the Blendweb mushroom grew. These creatures are noted for blending in with the environment similarly to a Ctenizidae spider, ambushing their prey from an underground hole when they get close. Their silk is valuable, aging into hardened crystal to be sold among the wealthy in Olympia.
CUTPURSE WILLOW
IMAGE Link
RARITY Common
LOCATION Wyver jungles.
TEMPERAMENT Fairly harmless.
REPORT Submitted by Wyver.

A tree known for wrapping its hanging vine-like branches around anything that brushes past underneath it. Loose items in your pockets? Glasses? A weapon over your shoulder? Much like a venus fly trap closes around its food, the viney branches of this tree coil around anything that comes in contact with its leaves. Once grabbed, the vines begin to rise back up into the canopy, and these trees are quite tall—better grab your things before you have to do some climbing! Who knows what other lost items you might find up there, though...
DARRING
IMAGE Link
RARITY Fairly Common
LOCATION The Undergrowth, specifically... under... growth. They like to hang out in logs and under leaves and branches. Lift an especially big leaf and you can spot a handful that scamper to a more shady location in protest.
TEMPERAMENT The darring like to hang out in shadowed areas that are fairly moist. They are not particularly afraid of predators and seem to enjoy doing their own thing. As long as that thing is in a shadowy damp place.
REPORT Submitted by Peter Parker

Darring have an unusual tendency to change their color depending on their mood. And even more peculiar, the wet mucus they excrete to keep their skin moist will cause different reactions if consumed depending on their color. The residents of Wyver like to dare foreigners to try licking them when they are purple (it causes extreme stomach discomfort) while the locals are most likely to lick a darring when it is yellow (a long if slightly subdued high). It is worth noting that since their color is based on their mood, you may need to spoil the frog or make it happy or scare it or anything in between if you are looking for a certain reaction.
DRAGON MIMICS
IMAGE Cherry | Raspberry | Blueberry | Grape | Snowberries | Weird Orange Fruit | Cranberries | Mango?? | Coconut | or whatever analogous fruit Wyver has, there's a lot of room to get creative here.
RARITY Uncommon/Common/Etc
LOCATION Mainly in heavily fruited areas of the Undergrowth, but small numbers might spring up wherever large amounts of fruit are grown, including (although very uncommonly) within Wyver itself. In the Undergrowth, they can be found around large amounts of their fruit of choice.
TEMPERAMENT Depends on the subspecies - and oddly enough, on the flavor of whatever fruit they favor. Sweet fruits result in sweeter dragons, friendly and curious like a pet snake might be. Tart fruit dragons are more temperamental; they might react well to you, or they may bite the crap out of you. Bitter or spiky fruits house territorial, aggressive dragons, and dragons of poisonous fruits have a similarly toxic bite or skin excretions.
REPORT Submitted by Handsome Jack

Actually a species of lizard rather than true dragons (you'll never see one longer than a foot or taller than a few inches), "fruit dragons" are nonetheless highly valued for their draconic appearance and bold colors - they're rarely kept as pets because of just how difficult they are to care for (if separated from living plants of their choice, they'll quickly wither and die), but certain nobility has taken to keeping them in private gardens, seeing it as great sport to compete on who can attract the most/rarest dragons. Killing them is seen in very poor taste, although some intrepid chefs have experimented with using them in their dishes - they taste strongly of their fruit alongside a savory umami flavor, but seriously, look at them. How could you kill something that cute and helpless, you absolute monster.
DREADMAWK
IMAGE Link
RARITY Uncommon
LOCATION Southern ocean coastlines
TEMPERAMENT Territorial, solitary
REPORT Submitted by Ramsay Bolton

With the body the size of a goat and a tail up to three meters (ten feet) long, the Dreadmawk can seem imposing to anyone on the coast or on a boat. This primarily aquatic creature lives underwater until maturity, when it becomes able to fly- and then becomes a terror to any fishermen as it will try to eat their catch! Only rarely will it kill humans, but it is very territorial. The meat is edible but rubbery- but good for feeding to dragons. It's feathers and scales can be brewed into potions which allow underwater breathing for a time. The eggs (if you can find a nest underwater and avoid the brooding mother) are a delicacy, which is why these creatures are uncommon now. The teeth look cool, but have no special effects. People like to make necklaces of them.
DULDRUM
IMAGE Link
RARITY Common
LOCATION Wyver jungles.
TEMPERAMENT Not hostile, friendly when coaxed out of hiding.
REPORT Submitted by Wyver.

Looking like a cross between a reptile and a bird with a fringe of fern-like "feathers" on its head and spine/tail, the Duldrum is a peaceful creature that has only one interest: sound. Its song can captivate and confuse those who listen to it, as the Duldrums use their song to try to get other creatures/people to make sound back. They are more active and alert the more sound there is, and will go into hiding/fall asleep if it becomes too quiet. Due to the confusion they cause, only their behavior has been studied; their specific habitats, diet, and other information has not yet been confirmed.
FILIMANDER
IMAGE Link
RARITY Uncommon
LOCATION Found throughout the undergrowth, and particularly humid locations. They do not do well in cities or out in open areas.
TEMPERAMENT Skittish, difficult to spot.
REPORT Submitted by Revolver Ocelot

A small salamander-like creature, the filimander unique in that its body is composed entirely of water. Born from rainstorms in Wyver, these creatures scurry around the undergrowth. Their skin excretes pure water, making them a guaranteed safe source of hydration to anyone who finds themselves lost in the jungle.
GALEIDOS BEETLE
IMAGE Size Reference | Red and Blue | Pink | Opal
RARITY Common
LOCATION Anywhere particularly warm and damp, from humid patches of jungle to city bathing areas.
TEMPERAMENT Shy, harmless.
REPORT Submitted by Taryon Darrington

For much of their multi-year lifespan these beetles are an ordinary brown, live in solitude, and often hide away by digging themselves into damp soil or helping to decompose the jungle floor. However when it is time for them to mate they will moult their dull exoskeleton to reveal a bright jewel tone. During these times they are active flyers and will often gather in one swarm at dusk, making for a beautiful, glittering sight, and the sweet smell that accompanies it induces warm, romantic feelings. Wyver natives consider it good luck for one to land on them. Their colorful bodies can be used to make dyes and food coloring, and some ambitious Wyver crafters use their wings or bodies in jewellery. The beetle's internal acids mean you would need a strong stomach to eat them whole, but the grubs are nutritious if dug up. Their shed exoskeleton can be ground into a powder that is relaxing if taken, or in large or well-refined doses, an opiate.
GEYSER SPRING BUTTERFLY FISH
IMAGE Link
RARITY Uncommon in the wild. A little more rare in the city itself.
LOCATION Wild around Namarak Mountain
TEMPERAMENT Remarkably friendly, if hazardous to handle.
REPORT Submitted by The Boxer

A small species of fish, found in shallow mountain pools. They are common enough in certain springs, but tricky to keep and transport, as they posses a unique ability to generate heat, and tend to heat the shallow pools they thrive in to their preferred temperature—just shy of a rolling boil. But they're popular as pets and companions for their small size, colorful appearance, and playful temperament—as well as their handy water-heater abilities—so they fetch a pretty decent price. If one can figure out how to catch them without scalding your own hands off.
GLOWING SNAKE
IMAGE Picture | Snek Bite
RARITY Rare
LOCATION Near the beach close to that big skull thing.........
TEMPERAMENT Very hostile, these snakes use their bioluminescence to lure in prey before attacking. The shifting pattern of lights on their scales can be mesmerizing, and they will strike as soon as someone is close enough.
REPORT Submitted by Merlin

A medium-sized snake... at largest, python sized. These snakes primarily feed on blood rather than whole prey, and their venom is laced with the bio-luminescent chemical/pheromone/whatever you want to call it in their skin. As a result, their bites have a sort of hypnosis to them; for small creatures this just makes them pliant so the snake can continue to feed off them, whereas for larger creatures like humans this has the curious effect of making the bitten limb/area seem "not one's one" for a duration of a few hours. Literally, if your arm is bitten it will be like your hand has a mind of its own. While this could lead to hours of raucous slapstick fun, the bite also hurts like hell and the spread of the light-up venom will be sore for days afterwards. It is not, however, a deadly toxin. The bio-luminescent material fetches a pretty price if you can catch one of these creatures and coax the venom out to collect it.
IGMOK
IMAGE Link
RARITY Uncommon
LOCATION Khalo Village
TEMPERAMENT Mostly friendly, however males are far more territorial and easily raged.
REPORT Submitted by Aranea Highwind

Around the size of large cattle, Igmok were once brought towards extinction due to the value of their steel-like hide. Many of the housing in Wyver was created with Igmok hide and has lasted the test of time. Fortunately, laws and protections on these creatures were strict enough to allow herds of Igmok to flourish outside Khalo Village. These gentle giants are herbivores and roam the plains, but are notorious for breaking into crops to cause problems for farmers. The only way to take one of these creatures down is by the exposed fleshy part located on their face.
LEPTAIL
IMAGE Link
RARITY Uncommon
LOCATION The Undergrowth
TEMPERAMENT Skittish and harmless unless provoked, though males are more territorial, and females turn aggressive if with young.
REPORT Submitted by Reign Fear

Leptails are feline creatures that live amongst the trees of the Undergrowth and are known for almost never stepping foot on the jungle grounds. Quick on their feet, leptails prey on small animals and insects for food. At maturity, they stand at about 15' in height and 22' in length from head to tail for both genders, with males distinguishable by the horns on their head. Leptails are famous for the jewel-like protrusion on their forehead called "Lapis" that emits a blue-green glow, though its exact functions have yet to be thoroughly researched. Because the Lapis is rumoured to be imbued with magical/healing properties, leptails were once hunted to the point of near extinction. Only through recent conservation efforts have their numbers slowly increase.
LUSTROUS MICANISH
IMAGE Link
RARITY Rare unless during spring mating when they come to the surface (So common for about a month)
LOCATION Location
TEMPERAMENT Harmless but easily spooked.
REPORT Submitted by Reinhardt Wilhelm

A small fish, the largest and oldest being the size of a man's hand. This fish swim in small schools, usually in the deepest depths of the darkest parts of the Coves waters. They have a form of bio-luminescence that makes them glow, due to their murky habitat. Every year, at mating season in the spring, these fish swim up to the surface in a dazzling glowing display of sparkling lights. This is also the only time these fish are able to really be fished. Micanish are prized for their sweet tasting meat, and the fish-oil purportedly is used in beauty products to give a "youthful glow".
MANDRINE
IMAGE Link
RARITY Common
LOCATION The Undergrowth
TEMPERAMENT Hostile
REPORT Submitted by Matt Murdock

Appearing as a regular vine in the undergrowth, it is only when touched or grabbed that the creature reveals itself and attacks. When the bark parts of its body touches bare skin, it causes a mild rash. It has an irritable temperament, avoiding sunlight and residing in shaded areas close to trees and flora, to disguise itself. It feeds on small flora and has known to be caught by the Cutpurse Willow at times. Its leaves, when crushed and boiled, can be used as a topical painkiller or to relieved inflammation to rashes or swollen or bruised flesh. The Mandrine may infest other parts of Wyver, as well, and require dedicated exterminator to remove.
MORPHNUS EAGLE
IMAGE Link
RARITY Common in their habitat.
LOCATION Namarak Mountain
TEMPERAMENT Slightly skittish but opportunistic.
REPORT Submitted by Mikazuki Augus

A mid-sized species of eagle native to the cooler temperatures of Namarak mountain. It can be found all along the mountainside and even ventures to the jungles of its base to hunt, but nests year-round on the snowy peaks. These birds have adapted strong claws and serpentine necks and heads to ward away predators who are less likely to engage with something that has a dragon-like appearance. They are solitary by nature, but form mating pairs for life and typically hatch 2-3 eggs per year in the summer. Intelligent and opportunistic, they've taken quite the shine to humans who value them for their beautiful plumage and pest-control skills, and can be relatively domesticated as long as they and their young are kept safe. Killing a Morphnus eagle is considered bad luck, but feathers that have naturally fallen can be harvested and sold for a variety of uses, including for decorative/cosmetic purposes, fletching arrows, fishing lures, quill pens, and filling for winter clothing and bedding. Some shamans even use the feathers for ceremonial and medicinal purposes.
NACRELS
IMAGE Link
RARITY Uncommon
LOCATION The undergrowth
TEMPERAMENT Curious and social but very territorial and protective of their own
REPORT Submitted by Terra

A small arboreal rodent found almost exclusively in the Undergrowth's oldest and largest trees. Nacrels are diurnal and mostly herbivorous (with the occasional insect snack). They live in colonies of up to fifteen adult individuals and are fiercely protective of their families and trees. Nacrels typically come in varying shades of grey and brown, though the odd melanistic or albinistic animal has been noted. All nacrels sport iridescent quills and these quills are highly valued as decoration. Special care must be taken in collecting the quills, though: if/when a nacrel dies, all of its quills -- even those it parted ways with years ago, somehow -- immediately lose their lustre. Most quill hunters just search the ground around large trees, looking for naturally shed quills and crossing their fingers they fell off a young animal with plenty of life left to live. Nacrel meat is edible, but they're seldom eaten due to the quill situation and the fact that few people want to face off against an angry group of fast, prickly animals just for scraps of gamey, chewy meat.
NIKNIK
IMAGE Link
RARITY Common
LOCATION The Undergrowth
TEMPERAMENT Shy and docile.
REPORT Submitted by Rocket

Nikniks are small prey animals who survive in large numbers due to their intelligence and their second set of "eyes," which secrete a powerful fear toxin when they're frightened, which can make a person hallucinate whatever scares them most until they've fled from the niknik's home. Because of their small size and relatively docile nature, it's not uncommon for them to be captured and sold as exotic pets, though they have to have the toxin drained from them before they can be sold. Both the toxin and their pelts fetch a high price, though their tails are considered the most valuable- a niknik tail worn on a belt is considered to be very fashionable for men.
PAPILIONEM
IMAGE Link
RARITY Uncommon, it is a very specialized pet that can be hard to maintain unless the user is patient, and were original used as working beasts.
LOCATION Mostly found in the cities, with the occasional runaways in the forest.
TEMPERAMENT By default, due to their dog nature, they are very friendly towards humanoids unless provoked. They tend to bond to just a few individuals. You can teach them tricks, and since they were originally used to chase down flying prey, they need a lot of outdoor flying time.
REPORT Submitted by Yu Narukami

The Papilionem used to be used by farms to chase flying vermin. Wither by magic or technology, the creature looks like a cross between a dog and a butterfly. Having a wingless baby phase, it undergoes metamorphosis for a few days to emerge it its adult form. Apart from flying and having a close bond with its own, the creature has no special powers. A strike difference to normal dog, it has become a designer breed, the colors of the wings and fur colors varying as butterflies themselves.
SPIKY BEETLE
IMAGE Link
RARITY Common
LOCATION The Undergrowth, less commonly in populated areas.
TEMPERAMENT Harmless, but stepping on the shell with bare feet stings a bit.
REPORT Submitted by Shura Kirigakure

A hardy beetle that feeds off of a variety of leaves and other greenery in the jungle. Its spiked body is its primary defense against predators, though particularly clever birds know how to flip the beetle over to reveal its soft abdomen. The carapace is sought after by locals and considered somewhat valuable as it used to produce a brilliant yellow dye. It takes a good number of beetles to produce this dye, but if someone is willing to put on work gloves and gather them, they'll be able to easily find a buyer.
TRICK BEETLE
IMAGE Link
RARITY Uncommon, but if you spot one you'll likely spot a dozen as they hang in groups.
LOCATION The Old City
TEMPERAMENT Does not move when being fussed or moved, however when it is dark and silent the trick beetle will find sleeping targets, bury in the skin, and eat any living thing from the inside out.
REPORT Submitted by Diana Prince

Trick Beetles cling in groups on walls, especially man made surfaces. They are golden in color and rarely move so they look like genuine decorations, and have learned to cover surfaces that will not make them look out of place (ornate wall, on artwork, etc). However, they are not decorations, even if their skin can be milled for impressively sparkling cosmetics. Careful trying to pry off a bunch of these to sell at market, because they're more likely to crawl out of your bag and attempt to eat you in your sleep. They are incredibly hard to kill with blunt force, so be careful around these things!
WIGGLEWYRM
IMAGE Link
RARITY Uncommon
LOCATION Wyver coasts.
TEMPERAMENT Extremely hostile.
REPORT Submitted by Wyver.

The sea serpents attack by striking in high, arching swoops over the boat and back into the water. Their scales are softer and thinner than a dragon's, so they are susceptible to any weapon or magic that can pierce. Characters may use what has been made available in the boats and their own powers to take them down at medium difficulty, but if they delay for any reason, they will proceed to snap the boat in half and leave them to swim the rest of the way.
